Kore Global partnered with NLA International to design and deliver a gender training session for the Ministry of Blue Economy and Disaster Risk Management in Belize as part of an Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)-funded initiative. The project aimed to integrate gender considerations into Belize’s blue economy work, supporting three key agencies: the Blue Economy Unit (BEU), Belize Fisheries Department (BFD), and the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute (CZMAI).
Kore Global developed a bespoke virtual training session. The session was designed through a comprehensive review of blue economy and gender-related policies, reports, and other literature, utilizing a socio-ecological framework to identify barriers and enablers for gender equality in Belize’s blue economy.
The training session focused on the following objectives:
- Building awareness and alignment on key gender concepts and issues in Belize’s blue economy.
- Discussing and prioritizing gender mainstreaming and budgeting efforts for the Ministry of Blue Economy.
- Identifying resources needed to advance gender equality initiatives.
- Establishing next steps for IDB and the Ministry to implement gender mainstreaming strategies.
The training session was tailored to the specific needs of the Belize government, and employed participatory and collaborative activities through Mural to enable participants to apply learnings and develop concrete next steps for the integration of intersectional gender considerations in their work, ensuring that Belize’s blue economy can deliver on its promise and benefit all Belizeans equitably.
